The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 4-3 at Finlandia University Friday night. Lake Forest freshman Jason McAloon had a power play goal and a short-handed score in the contest.
The Foresters had a pair of leads in the game, the first after sophomore Craig McDowell started the scoring at the 3:42 mark of the first period and the second when McAloon converted a power play opportunity with 80 seconds remaining before the first intermission. Sophomores Mike Violette and Roberto Caparelli assisted on McDowell's second score of the season and freshman Anthony Martinez set up McAloon's first of the game.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 11-8 in the first period and led 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Finlandia tied the score at the 1:43 mark of the second period and took the lead at 3:51. The Foresters were four seconds from killing off a penalty when McAloon netted the team's second short-handed score and his team-high eighth goal of the year at 15:37. Violette earned his second assist of the game.
The Foresters had a 12-7 edge in shots on goal in the second period and a 14-5 advantage in the third. The Lions, however, scored the only goal of the final period at 1:59 and held on for the victory.
Lake Forest fell to 1-15-0 overall and 1-10-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. It was the Foresters' fourth one-goal loss in their last seven games. Finlandia raised their overall record to 3-12-0 and league mark to 3-8-0.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
