For the second day in a row, the Forester women's hockey team
skated to a 3-3 tie with visiting UW-River Falls on Saturday
(February 13). Lake Forest, which entered the week ranked seventh
in the nation by US College Hockey Online, is now 15-2-4 overall
this season and in first place on the Northern Collegiate Hockey
Association with a league mark of 9-1-4. The Falcons, ranked sixth
in the country, are 14-3-6 overall and 7-2-5 in the conference.
Forester sophomore Jessica Dare (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Belle Tire)
scored the only goal of the opening period at the 11:21 mark.
Lake Forest went ahead by two when sophomore Mira Trebilcock (South
Porcupine, Ontario/Trinity College School) converted a power play
opportunity at 11:53 in the second period. Her fifth goal of the
season was assisted by freshman Angie Chronis (Ann Arbor,
Mich./Victory Honda). The Falcons, however, pulled back to within a
score just six seconds later and the Foresters were still ahead 2-1
at the end of the period.
The home team regained its two-goal advantage on Dare's second goal
of the game and 13th this season three minutes and six seconds into
the third period. Dare's power play score was assisted by
Trebilcock and senior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland
Pines H.S.). River Falls scored a power play goal at 5:50 and tied
the game on an even-strength score at 12:39.
For the second straight day, the Falcons pulled their goalie with
70 seconds remaining in the 5-minute overtime but, as in last
night's contest, neither team was able to score and the game ended
in a tie.
After both teams put nine shots on goal in the opening period River
Falls out-shot the Foresters 11-10 in the second, 13-12 in the
third, and 3-1 in overtime. Lake Forest junior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) finished the
contest with 33 saves.
Lake Forest can clinch its first conference championship with a
pair of victories next weekend (February 19-20) against visiting
Concordia University Wisconsin. Depending on the results of Adrian
College's games at UW-Stevens Point tonight and tomorrow afternoon,
the Foresters may only need one win over Concordia to claim the
title. Friday night's 7:00 game will be Parents Night and a live
radio broadcast will be available at
wmxm.org. Saturday afternoon's 2:00
contest will be the first annual Ryann "Ry" McCarthy Memorial Game
and Award Presentation. It will also be Senior Day.
