The Lake Forest College women's basketball team defeated visiting Grinnell College 67-57 on Saturday to finish the season with an overall record of 13-10 and Midwest Conference mark of 11-7. Senior Tabytha Harvey led the home team with 19 points, nine rebounds, and six steals.
The Foresters finished in a three-way tie for third place in the MWC standings but tiebreakers left them out of next weekend's four-team conference tournament.
Lake Forest senior guard Emily Weber joined Harvey in double figures with 18 points. She was 3-for-6 from three-point range and added three steals. Fellow senior guard Aimee Lockwood pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Guard Sherrie Dubinski, the team's other senior joined her three classmates in the starting lineup and the quartet was honored before the start of their final career game.
The Foresters shot 41 percent from the field compared to Grinnell's 32.2 percent. The home team also made seven of 22 three-pointers and 10 of 17 free throws. They were out-rebounded 44-39 but committed just 13 turnovers while forcing 20 Pioneer miscues.
The lead changed hands 10 times in the first half, the last in the early part of a 13-2 run by Lake Forest that put the home team ahead for good.
The Foresters led 33-27 at halftime and scored the first four points of the second half. Grinnell trimmed the margin to five twice during the next three minutes but an 11-2 run extended Lake Forest's advantage back into double figures, where it stayed for the rest of the game.
