The Forester women's basketball team won 72-64 at Illinois College on Saturday. Sophomore guard Sam Schuring led the visitors with a career-high 20 points and added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Schuring was an efficient 8-for-11 from the field, 1-for-2 from three-point range, and 3-for-4 from the free throw line in 35 minutes of play.
Lake Forest senior guard Emily Weber was next on the squad with a dozen points while senior guard Aimee Lockwood and sophomore forward Liz Radtke added 10 points apiece.
The Foresters shot 51 percent from the floor and 5-for-21 from beyond the arc. The visitors were also 17-for-22 from the foul line on Saturday and have connected on 54 of 66 free throws (81.8%) in their last three games. Illinois College shot 46.9 percent from the field, 4-for-11 on three-pointers, and 14-for-24 from the line. The Lady Blues had a 30-26 edge in rebounds but committed 18 of the game's 35 turnovers.
Schuring opened the game with a basket but Illinois College scored the next 10 points. The home team led by as many as nine points on two occasions in the first half and 30-24 at intermission.
The margin reached 10 points early in the second half and was nine before a 15-3 Forester run put the visitors ahead 50-47 with 6:25 to play in the contest. After the Lady Blues tied the score at 52 and 56, Schuring scored five points during a 7-0 Forester run and the visitors shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 40 seconds to secure the victory.
Lake Forest is now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College fell to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the league.
