The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 72-67 at Carroll University on Friday. Sophomore forward Liz Radtke narrowly missed her first double-double, finishing with 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Lake Forest sophomore guards Sam Schuring and Alex Messacar also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Schuring dished out a game-high six assists and Messacar shot 5-for-7 from the field.
The Foresters led by as many as 13 points in the opening period and 38-26 after shooting 52.9 percent from the field in the first half.
The visitors scored the first two points of the second half to take a 14-point lead. Carroll, however, scored 12 of the game's next 14 points to pull to within four. Twenty-two of the Lady Pioneers' 46 second half points came were scored on free throws and the home team pulled ahead on a jumper with 9:43 to play. A layup by Radtke tied the game at 60 with 3:26 to play but Carroll regained the lead on its next possession, extended it to four points with 1:47 remaining, and then made seven of eight foul shots down the stretch to seal the victory.
It was the first Midwest Conference game of the season for both teams. Carroll raised its overall record on the season to 4-1 while the Foresters fell to 2-2.
