The Forester women's basketball team defeated host Beloit College 78-62 Friday night in the first of its four games in six days. Lake Forest sophomore guard Sam Schuring led all players in the game with a career-high 28 points.
Schuring shot 12-for-21 from the field and added three rebounds and two steals and played all but 29 seconds in the game.
Forester sophomore Liz Radtke and senior Tabytha Harvey also reached double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively. The forwards combined to shoot 10-for-15 from the floor and they each dished out three assists. Harvey also led the visitors and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds. Senior guard Aimee Lockwood led the team with four assists.
Lake Forest shot 48.2 percent from the field in the game and made all but three of 23 free throws. Beloit was held to 40.7 percent from the floor but out-rebounded the visitors 38-33. The Bucaneers were forced into 15 turnovers in the contest while the Foresters committed a season-low six.
The Foresters led by as many as seven points and Beloit by six in a first half that included eight lead changes. A 17-4 run late in the period by the Buccaneers turned their largest deficit into their biggest lead and the home team was ahead 38-32 at halftime.
Beloit scored the first basket of the second half and had an eight-point advantage again with 17 minutes to play in the contest. The Foresters then rattled off 25 straight points over the next 11 minutes to take a 62-45 lead. Schuring and Radtke each scored eight point during the run and Harvey added six. The Buccaneers got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Beloit fell to 7-13 overall and 5-10 in league play.
The Foresters will take on Monmouth College in each of their next two games. The teams will play in Lake Forest tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 and at Monmouth Monday evening at 5:00.
