Lake Forest College men's hockey player Leo Podolsky was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after posting a save percentage of .932 against a pair of ranked opponents over the weekend.
Podolsky, a junior goaltender, tallied 39 saves in a loss at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, Friday night. It matched the third-highest single-game total of his career. He stopped 14 shots on goal in the second period and 16 in the third.
Podolsky's career-high in saves was 42 set last Saturday at St. Norbert College until he finished with 43 in a 1-1 tie at #9 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday night. He turned away 18 of 19 shots on goal in the opening period and all 15 he faced in the second.
Despite his save percentage dropping to .944 on the season, Podolsky still ranks 12th in the nation in that category. He is also 25th in the country with a 1.98 goals against average on the year.
NCHA Players of the Week are selected by the league's directors of sports information and public relations.
