Sophomore Parker Hill was eight shots better on Sunday than Saturday as the Forester men's golf team placed second out of four teams at the St. Norbert College Invitational over the weekend.
Hill's score of 84 on day two of the tournament was the second-lowest on the team and tied for the eighth-best round in the 24-player field. He recorded six pars on the day and birdied the par-4, 370-yard 13th hole.
Sophomore Ricky Schmidt was the Foresters' top player on both days and finished fourth overall at 162. His 80 on Saturday included seven pars, including four in a row at one point, and back-to-back birdies on 13 and the par-5, 536-yard 14th hole. After needing 44 shots to complete the front nine on Sunday, he finished the back in just 38 and carded a birdie on the par-4, 361-yard 11th.
Cam McGuire, another Forester sophomore, tied for ninth place overall with a two-day score of 174. Freshman Austin Aksoy was next on the team, a shot behind McGuire and one ahead of Hill. Sophomore Elijah Collins posted a 36-hole score of 178.
St. Norbert won the tournament in 640 strokes, 43 fewer than Lake Forest.
It was the final event of the regular season for the Foresters, who will travel to Rockford, Illinois, for the next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships. The three-day tournament will begin on Thursday and will be played at Aldeen Golf Club.
