Junior Davis DeKorte led Lake Forest and placed sixth overall with a two-day score of 153 as the Forester men's golf team tied for third place on Sunday at the two-day, 13-team Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational. The event was played at the 6,854-yard, par-72 Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin.
DeKorte was in third place after carding a 74 in the first round, which began on Sunday but, due to several weather delays, was finished Monday morning. His opening round included a pari of birdies and his score on the back nine was a 1-under 35. He recorded two more birdies in the first half of his second round but needed 42 shots to get through the final nine holes. He finished just nine shots off the lead in the 78-player field.
After shooting an 82 in round one, freshman Jacob Krugman matched DeKorte with a 79 on his final 18 holes. Starting the final round in a tie for 36th place, he moved up 21 spots into a tie for 15th in the overall standings. Krugman's only birdie came on the sixth hole on Sunday and he posted 11 pars on his final round.
Sophomore Ricky Schmidt competed as an individual at the event and had a season-best score of 80 on Sunday and 163 for the tournament, tying him for 23rd place. He had eight straight pars on the back none in round one and birdied the 222-yard, par-3 16th hole on Monday.
Sophomore Parker Hill and junior Durham Ghelfi tied for 37th and 39th, respectively, with scores of 167 and 168. Hill had three birdies at the event, one on the final hole of his first round and two late in the second. Ghelfi's two birdies were consecutive on holes 14 and 15 of his opening round.
With a score of 302 on both days, Carthage College won the event by 33 strokes over Wisconsin Lutheran. Lake Forest and Edgewood College were tied for third place with a two-day score of 649, two shots better than fifth-place Marian University.
The Foresters will close out the fall portion of their 2016-17 schedule at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational. Play at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, will begin at 1:00 Sunday afternoon and 9:00 Monday morning.
