Sophomore Ricky Schmidt was one of two Lake Forest players tied for seventh place with a 77 at the Forester Spring Invite on Sunday. The host school's Red Team finished fourth out of a dozen teams at the event.
Schmidt birdied two of his final seven holes and shot a one-over-par 37 on the back nine. He played the course's four par-5s even and the four par-3s in just one over. Freshman Jacob Krugman matched Schmidt with a 77 on the 6,615-yard, par-72 course at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. Krugman went out in 39 and came back in 38, thanks in part to his only birdie of the round on 10.
Sophomore Parker Hill was next on the squad with an 80 but led the Foresters with three birdies, including one on the final hole. Juniors Davis DeKorte and Durham Ghelfi rounded out the Lake Forest Red team with matching scores of 83. Both players had a pair of birdies on the day.
The Lake Forest Black team finished in eighth place and was led by sophomores Elijah Collins and Cam McGuire, who tied for 23rd place in the 70-player field at 81. Collins was one-under-par on the sixth hole while McGuire carded back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16.
Sophomore Carter Ostrander (90), freshman Austin Aksoy (92), and junior Matthew Pochowicz (95) completed the Black Team.
Junior Jeremy Edelson led three Foresters competing as individuals with an 87. Sophomore Jordan Mandel completed his round in 94 shots, one fewer than junior Jacob Soyka.
Elmhurst College was the overall champion with a four-man score of 304, nine shots better than Carthage College, which edged out Illinois College for second place by a stroke. The Foresters' Red Team was fourth at 317 and St. Norbert College's Green Team fifth at 321.
Lake Forest will travel to Royal St. Patrick's Golf Links in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, for next weekend's St. Norbert College Invitational. Saturday's opening round will begin at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday's play will start at 8:30 a.m.
