Freshman Jacob Krugman carded a team-best 77 as the Forester men's golf team competed with Wisconsin Lutheran College and North Park University on Tuesday at Southern Pines Golf Club in North Carolina.
Krugman needed 40 shots to complete the front nine, making the turn at 5-over. He birdied the 542-yard, par-5 fifth hole and began a stretch of five consecutive pars at hole eight. He also birdied the 350-yard, par-4 18th and completed the back nine in 1-over 37. He has now scored in the 60s or 70s in seven of nine rounds this year.
Junior Davis DeKorte was next on the Lake Forest Red Team with a round of 83 that also included a pair of birdies. He tied for 10th place in the Sophomores Elijah Collins and Ricky Schmidt finished one shot behind DeKorte and in a tied for 12th overall to give the Red Team a final score of 328, 32 shots behind Wisconsin Lutheran.
Sophomore Cam McGuire led the Foresters' Black Team with a round of 83 and he was followed by juniors Jeremy Edelson (88), Jacob Soyka (89), and Matthew Pochowitz (92). Their total of 352 was just seven strokes behind North Park for third place.
In addition to the 12 Foresters split up between the Red and Black teams, freshman Austin Aksoy played well as an individual, finishing his first collegiate competition in just 80 strokes. He matched Krugman and DeKorte with two birdies in his round.
The par-71 course at Southern Pines covers 6.354 yards when playing from the blue tees, which the teaqms did on Tuesday.
The next event on Lake Forest's schedule is Knox College's Prairie Fire Classic on March 31 and April 1.
