The Forester men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 61-48 loss to Carroll University at home on Saturday. It was the final home game for Lake Forest senior Chase Janer.
Junior forward Jim Schick led the home team with 19 points and six rebounds while freshman forward Danny Sotos also reached double figures with 10 points. Junior guard Mike Rueffer and freshman guard Jordan Moran led all players in the contest with six assists and four steals, respectively.
The Foresters shot 42.6 percent from the floor while the Pioneers connected on 53.5 percent of field goal attempts. Carroll outscored the home team 24-15 from three-point range and shot 7-for-7 from the foul line while Lake Forest made just three of 10 free throws. The Foresters out-rebounded their guests 28-23.
Both teams led by as many as six points and the game was tied five times in the opening period. Carroll scored eight straight points late in the half and took a 28-22 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play.
Another 8-0 run by the Pioneers early in the second half extended the lead to 12. Lake Forest cut that deficit in half with just less than eight minutes to play but Carroll scored 10 consecutive points over a six-and-a-half minute span to put the game out of reach.
The Foresters finished the regular season 12-10 overall and 10-8 in Midwest Conference play. Carroll is 19-4 overall and 15-3 in the league. Both squads have qualified for next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament at league champion St. Norbert College. The Pioneers will face Ripon College in Friday's 1:30 p.m. semifinal and Lake Forest will take on the hosts at 6:00 in the evening. Saturday's final is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
