Sophomore guard Eric Porter knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points but the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 74-51 at Cornell College on Saturday.
Porter and junior forward Jim Schick, who finished with 14 points, were the only Foresters to score in doubles figures. Schick also had a team-high eight rebounds.
Lake Forest shot just 32.7 percent from the field after shooting 54.1 percent in its previous five games combined. The Rams connected on 48.4 percent of its field goal attempts, out-rebounded the Foresters 39-30, and committed just 10 turnovers to the visitors' 15.
Cornell scored the game's first seven points and led by at least three the rest of the way. Lake Forest tralied by as many as 11 in the first half but closed the gap to five at 33-28 by the time the opening period buzzer sounded.
The Rams also scored the first seven points of the second half and continued to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the game's final 18 minutes. The Foresters faced an 11-point deficit after a pair of Porter free throws with 13:07 to play but a 12-0 run by the home team put the game out of reach.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record to 9-6 and Midwest Conference mark to 7-4 while Cornell improved to 6-10 overall and 4-7 in the league.
The Foresters will be back at home in their next game Tuesday evening against Lawrence University. The contest will begin at 5:00 p.m.
