Men's basketball player Mike Rueffer was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after setting new career-highs for points in a game twice in the previous seven days.
Rueffer, a junior guard, entered Saturday's game at Illinois College with a career-high of 14 points set at Coe College on December 19. He finished with 17 in Saturday's 87-72 victory and added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the contest. Rueffer was 5-for-7 from three-point range and made both of his attempts from the free throw line.
Lake Forest defeated visiting Ripon College 78-59 Tuesday night and Rueffer led all players in the game with 23 points. He shot 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and played all but two minutes on the evening. In addition to his scoring exploits, Rueffer often guarded the league's second-leading scorer and held him to five points less than his season average.
Rueffer is now averaging 7.6 points per game and shooting 42.6 percent from three-point range this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
