Lake Forest Cruises to 74-53 Victory at Carroll

Lake Forest Cruises to 74-53 Victory at Carroll

The Forester men's basketball team routed host Carroll University 74-53 Tuesday night. Lake Forest freshman guard Austin Terry scored a career-high 20 points in the contest.

Terry, who came into the night averaging 3.6 points per game and having scored just 15 in his last five games combined, shot 5-for-8 from the field, 3-for-4 from three-point range, and 7-for-8 from the free throw line in 22 minutes of play. He and senior guard Jeff Beck outscored the entire Carroll team 54-53 on the night.

Beck, who netted a season-low seven points in the Foresters' first meeting of the year with Carroll on November 28, matched his career-high with 34 points on Tuesday. He shot 12-for-18 from the floor and made all four of his attempts from beyond the arc and all six of his foul shots. He also finished with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the game. Sophomore forward Brian Madson was next on the team with nine points and he added four blocked shots.

Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 35-28, thanks in large part to a career-high 17 boards by senior forward Chris Madson. The Foresters connected on exactly half of their field goal attempts, including nine of 16 three-pointers, and shot 15-for-20 from the foul line. They held their opponent to a season-low in scoring as the Pioneers shot just 38.9 percent from the field, 5-for-20 from outside the arc, and 6-for-10 from the line. The visitors committed a dozen turnovers to Carroll's 16.

The home team's only lead of the game was 3-2. Beck scored the Foresters' next nine points and an 11-2 run late in the first half extended the lead to double figures. A Carroll basket in the final minute made the score 38-29 at halftime.

Beck scored 10 points during a 16-2 run that game Lake Forest a game-high 27-point advantage with six-and-a-half minutes to play. Carroll scored the next eight points but got no closer.

The Foresters are now 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the Midwest Conference this season. The Pioneers entered the night tied for first place in the league standings but fell to 11-4 overall with a 7-3 third-place record in the MWC.

Lake Forest will continue conference play against visiting Illinois College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
