The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 5-0 by St. Norbert College in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament on Friday. Freshman Gracie Mullins and junior Kaitlyn Martin took the Green Knights to a tiebreaker at #3 doubles.
Mullins and Martin were nearly able to avenge an 8-3 loss to St. Norbert earlier in the season but fell 9-8 (7-4) on Friday. The Foresters were also defeated 8-2 at #2 doubles and 8-3 by the Green Knights' top team.
Play was stopped after St. Norbert clinched the team victory with wins at #2 and #6 singles. Forester senior Nonie Carson was the only Forester leading her match at that time. She won the first set at #3 singles 7-5 and had taken the first game in the second set as well.
It was the final dual match of the fall season for the Foresters, who finished 5-10.
St. Norbert advances to the championshipship match against Grinnell College.
Players from all nine teams in the league will gather in Madison, Wisconsin, for this weekend's doubles and singles tournaments. The three doubles brackets will be played out on Saturday and singles play will occur on Sunday.
