The Lake Forest College women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by Luther College on Saturday. The Foresters were also scheduled to take on host Wheaton College but that match was postponed.
The contest with Luther began at Wheaton College but was suspended due to lightning with Luther leading 4-0. The match was then completed indoors at the Centre Court Athletic Club.
Two of the singles matches needed a third-set super-tiebreak to settle. At #2, senior Nonie Carson won her first set 6-4 but fell 6-1 in the second and 10-5 in the tiebreak. Gracie Mullins was defeated 6-0 in the opening set at #3 before rebounding for a 6-4 win in the second. However, she was also defeated 10-5 in the tiebreak.
The Foresters, who opener their season with a 6-3 victory at Wisconsin Lutheran on Monday, are now 1-1 on the season under new head coach Michael Raymond. "Even though we won on Monday, I felt like we played much better today," he began. "Luther is coming off an NCAA bid and we played them well for stretches today. Our doubles specifically made excellent progress. We're looking forward to getting back to work next week."
Lake Forest will play four home matches in as many days next week, beginning Thursday against Benedictine University at 3:30 p.m. The Foresters will also host Carroll University and Mt. Mary College on Saturday and Lawrence University on Sunday.
