Foresters Defend Title at Marian Invite

Foresters Defend Title at Marian Invite

The Lake Forest College women's golf team posted the fourth-best round in program history on Saturday while finishing in first place at the Marian Invite for the second year in a row.

The Foresters' season-best team score of 337 is just 10 shots off the school record and 16 better than runner-up UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. There were seven teams at the event, which was played on the 5,802-yard, par-72 course at Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Lake Forest junior Cece Cruz was the individual champion with a career-best score of 82. She was 2-under on the four par-3s with birdies on the 150-yard sixth and 131-yard 15th. She also needed just three shots on the 348-yard par-4 12th. Cruz added three pars while shooting a 42 on the front nine and three more finishing the back in just 40 strokes.

Sophomore Amanda Lee was tied-for-second in the 38-player field with an 83. Her round included 10 pars, including seven on the front nine as she went out in 38.

Senior Anhayte Guajardo and sophomore Faith Jung tied for seventh place with matching rounds of 86. Like Cruz, Guajardo birdied the 12th hole while Jung matched Lee's par total with five on each half of the course.

Junior Yuka Kawata finished in a tie for 13th place with a 92.

The Foresters' next event will be the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, next Saturday and Sunday.
