Freshman goalkeeper Elvin Husetovic's save in the sixth round of penalty kicks on Friday sent the Lake Forest College men's soccer team to the final of the 2015 Midwest Conference Tournament. Lake Forest and host St. Norbert College were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtimes.
St. Norbert scored the first goal of the contest at the 71:35 mark and continued to lead 1-0 until the final minute of regulation. Forester senior midfielder Themis Mourikes began the play by sending the ball toward the top of the box. Senior forward Dylan Hartman headed it back to senior defender Jeremiah Erzen, who sent it into the lower right corner of the goal to tie the score with just 38 seconds on the clock.
Senior defender John Palutsis, sophomore forward John Cappuccitti, senior midfielder Cesar Sandoval, and junior midfielder Ellis Rutili scored for Lake Forest in the first five round of the shootout but the Green Knights connected on four of five attempts as well. Sophomore midfielder Seton Trostle was successful for the visitors in round six and Husetovic's sent the Foresters to Saturday's tournament final.
Husetovic made four saves in 31 minutes and 18 seconds of play after sophomore Josh Geiger stopped three of four St. Norbert shots on goal in the first 78:42.
Lake Forest is now 12-6-1 and St. Norbert 11-5-3 on the season.
The Foresters will face Knox Collegein Saturday's final at noon. Knox defeated Carroll University 2-1 in Friday's second semifinal.
