The Lake Forest College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at Grinnell College on Saturday. Forester junior midfielder Brendan McLane's first career goal broke a 1-1 tie late in the contest.
McLane became the fifth player on the team to score an official game-winning goal this year. The score was preceded by a Grinnell foul just on the Pioneers' side of midfield. The free kick by Forester junior midfielder came down in front of the goal and McLane found the losse ball and kicked it in for his first career goal.
A pair of nice passes set up the first goal of the contest, which was scored by sophomore midfielder Finnian Bunta at the 17:13 mark. It was Bunta's fifth goal of the season.
Grinnell, however, tied the score at the 25:41 mark and it remained 1-1 until's McLane's goal at 76:41.
The Foresters were out-shot 4-2 in the first half but had a 6-3 advantage in that category during the final 45 minutes and a 8-7 edge in the game.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Elvin Husetovic finished the afternoon with four saves and improved to 4-3-0 on the year.
The Foresters raised their overall record on the season to 7-3-0 and Midwest Conference mark to 2-1-0. The Pioneers fell to 4-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will be in action again on Sunday at Cornell College. The MWC game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
