The Lake Forest College men's soccer team improved to 6-2-0 in Midwest Conference play this season by defeating Lawrence University 2-0 at home on Sunday. Forester senior defender Jeremiah Erzen's first goal of the season broke a scoreless tie in the game's 50th minute.
Erzen came crashing into the penalty box from the left side of the field to kick in a cross from sophomore defender Elyas Ingram. Ingram had worked a give-and-go with senior forward Dylan Hartman on the right side and sent his pass through the box from near the end line.
After recording his team-high ninth assist of the season, Hartman added his ninth goal with 10:27 to play in the contest. He intercepted a Lawrence pass nearly 40 yards from the goal, dribbled into the right side of the box, and kicked the ball into the left side of the net. Hartman is now fifth in program history with 23 career assists, tied-for-seventh with 28 goals, and seventh with 79 points.
The Foresters out-shot the visitors 15-1 in a scoreless first half and had a 16-3 advantage in shot attempts in the final 45 minutes.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Josh Geiger recorded one save in his second shutout of the season.
The victory improved the Foresters' overall record on the season to 11-5-0 while Lawrence fell to 3-13-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the MWC.
Lake Forest will host Beloit College Thursday at 4:00 p.m. before closing out the regular season at home against St. Norbert College at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Victories in both contests would give the Foresters their third conference title in the last four years.
