Sophomore forward John Cappuccitti converted a penalty kick opportunity at the end of the game to give the Lake Forest College men's soccer team a 3-2 double-overtime victory at Webster University on Friday. It was Cappuccitti's third goal in as many games this season.
A foul and a red card was assessed to a Webster player in the closing seconds and a handball in the box was called on the ensuing free kick. Time expired but the Foresters were awarded the penalty kick, which Cappuccitti converted.
The game was marred by seven yellow cards, a pair of red cards, and 46 fouls between the two teams combined.
Lake Forest had a 2-0 lead at halftime after sophomore forward Nipun Chauhan's second goal of the year just 33 seconds into the contest and sophomore defender Elyas Ingram's first at 6:07. The Foresters had a 10-2 advantage in shots during the first 45 minutes.
Webster controlled the second half, out-shooting the visitors 11-3 and netting goals in the 49th and 64th minutes.
The overtime periods were similar to regulation, with the Gorloks attempting three shots to the Foresters' one in the first 10-minute extra period and Lake Forest having a 3-1 advantage in the second.
Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Geiger made four saves to earn the victory in his Forester debut.
Lake Forest is now 3-0-0 on the season while Webster fell to 0-4-0.
The Foresters will conclude their trip to St. Louis with a game at Fontbonne University Sunday at noon.
