The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 4-3 in overtime at Illinois Institute of Technology Friday night. Two of the Foresters' three goals were scored by freshman forward Nipun Chauhan.
Chauhan's first score of the night tied the game at one just eight minutes and 22 seconds into the contest. He struck again at the 20:51 mark after receiving a pass from senior forward Dylan Hartman. It was Chauhan's fourth goal of the season. Hartman then added to the Forester lead with his fifth goal of the year at 26:38. Senior midfielder Themis Mourikes assisted on Hartman's 24th career score, which tied him with three other players for 12th in program history. Hartman's three points on the night moved him into sole possession of ninth place in team annals with 69 in his career.
The Scarlet Hawks, however, held the Foresters scoreless the rest of the way and began their comback with a score just two minutes after Hartman's. Trailing 3-2 at the half, Illinois Tech tied the game with 11:17 remaining in regulation and netted the winner seven-and-a-half minutes into the extra period.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 10-9 in the opening period but were doubled up 10-5 in that category during the rest of the night. The final goal was scored on the only shot attempt for either team in the overtime period.
The non-conference loss dropped the Foresters overall record on the season to 8-4-0 while Illinois Tech improved to 6-6-1.
Lake Forest will be off this weekend and will resume Midwest Conference play next Wednesday night at Carroll University. That contest will begin at 7:30 p.m.
