The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Monday night, despite out-shooting the Warhawks 19-11. Senior midfielder Themis Mourikes scored both of the Foresters' goals.
Mourikes netted his first goal of the evening at the 6:02 mark, tying the game at one.
Whitewater had taken the early lead just 33 seconds into the contest and regained a one-goal advantage in the 21st minute. Both goals were scored on counter-attacks. The home team added a third score on a free kick with just 43 seconds to play before halftime.
Lake Forest had a 7-6 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes of the game before tallying a dozen attempts to the Warhawks' five in the second half.
Mourikes pulled the visitors to within a goal at the 63:21 mark on his fourth score of the year. The Foresters out-shot Whitewater 6-1 the rest of the way but were unable to tie the score.
Th loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 5-3-0 while Whitewater improved to 10-1-0.
Lake Forest will play another non-conference game at North Central College Wednesday night at 7:00.
