The Forester men's basketball team edged out visiting Beloit College 63-61 on a basket by junior forward Torrey Davis with just seven-tenths of a second on the clock. Davis scored a career-high 26 points on the night, including 19 of Lake Forest's 31 after halftime.
Davis shot 5-for-7 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line in the second half. He scored all 11 of the home team's points during the final three minutes of the game and knocked down a pair of free throws to give the home team a three-point lead with 31.1 seconds remaining. Beloit however, tied the score on a traditional three-point play with 16.4 seconds left, setting up the dramatic finish. Davis took the ball up the court and drove the right side of the lane. He missed a short jumper but got the rebound in the middle of the lane and scored with 0.7 seconds on the clock. Davis also deflected the Buccaneers' long pass up the court to finish off the victory.
Sophomore forward Jim Schick was the only other Forester to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Andrew Toth was next with seven points and led the home team with four assists.
Both teams shot 44 percent from the field in the contest. Lake Forest outscored Beloit 18-10 from the foul line and out-rebounded the visitors 32-27. The Buccaneers, however, committed just eight of the game's 19 turnovers.
The victory raises Lake Forest's overall record to 5-7 and evens the Foresters' Midwest Conference mark at 4-4. Beloit fell to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Lake Forest will host another conference game against Illinois College Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
