The Lake Forest College men's basketball team fell 67-57 at Monmouth College on Saturday. Sophomore forward Jim Schick led the Foresters with 21 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
It was Schick's second 20-point game of the season and the fourth of his career. He has now pulled down at least eight rebounds in eight of 11 games this year.
Junior guard Austin Terry was the only other Forester to reach double figures in points. He finished with a season-high 11 points after coming off the bench to shoot 3-for-4 from three-point range.
The Foresters shot just 37.3 percent from the field, made six of 18 attempts from beyond the arc, and knocked down seven of 11 foul shots. The Fighting Scots connected on 43.9 percent of their field goal attempts but just three of 13 from three-point range. Monmouth made twice as many free throws as the visitors, out-rebounded them 40-39, and committed just 14 turnovers to Lake Forest's 20.
Lake Forest led by as many as seven points (17-10) in the first half but an 11-0 run by the Scots gave them the lead. The score was tied at 25 before a basket by the home team gave Monmouth a 27-25 halftime lead.
The Foresters led briefly early in the second half before another 11-0 run by Monmouth put put the home team ahead for good. The margin reached as many as 14 points late in the contest.
Lake Forest fell to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in Midwest Conference play while Monmouth improved to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.
The Foresters will continue conference play against visiting Beloit College Wednesday night at 7:30.
