The Lake Forest College women's basketball team dropped a 61-38 decision to St. Norbert College at home Tuesday night.
Junior forward Brittany Avonts and senior guard Michelle Ricolcol led the Foresters with eight points apiece and Avints added a team-high eight rebounds.
The home team shot just 30.2 percent from the field on the night and made only two of 14 attempts from three-point range and four of six free throws. The Green Knights shot 40.7 percent from the floor, knocked down three of 16 attempts from beyond the arc, and sunk 10 of 11 foul shots. The visitors also had a 42-29 edge in rebounds and committed 13 turnovers to the Foresters' 16.
St. Norbert scored the game's first seven points but Lake Forest eventually pulled to within one at 9-8 and again at 11-10. The Knights scored the final basket of the opening period and led 13-10 after 10 minutes of play. The margin grew to as many as 10 points in the second quarter but the Foresters closed back to within four at 24-20 with just less than three minutes remaining in the half. The Knights outscored the Foresters 6-2 over the next few minutes and led 30-22 at halftime.
The visitors scored the first two baskets of the second half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. The difference reached as many as 18 points in the third quarter and 23 by the end of the game.
The Foresters overall record on the season fell to 11-9 and they are now 9-6 in Midwest Conference play. St. Norbert improved to 17-4 overall and 16-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to Grinnell College on Saturday to take on the Pioneers at 3:00 p.m.
