Freshman guard Tiffany Stiewe poured in a game-high 21 points in 12 minutes as the Lake Forest College women's basketball team routed visiting Lawrence University 91-50 Tuesday night.
Stiewe, who entered the game with two points on the season, knocked down her first career three-pointer late in the first half and made one of two free throws late in the third quarter. She then made all six of her field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, including four from beyond the arc, and scored 17 of the Forester reserves' 31 points in the period.
Junior guard Tara Gloystein and senior forward K.C. Stralka were next on the team with 11 points while junior forward Brittany Avonts, sophomore guard Kelsey Schmitt, and freshman forward Hannah Hiland chipped in with nine apiece. Freshman forward Paige Bobos, who scored seven points, led the home team with seven rebounds and Avonts led all players in the contest with a career-high six assists.
Twelve of the 13 Foresters who played in the game scored and six of them made at least one of the team's 14 three-pointers, the second-highest total in program history. Lake Forest shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the field and connected on 53.8 percent of three-pointers for the third-best mark in school history. The home team was also accurate from the free throw line, sinking 17 of 20 attempts. The Foresters' 91 points and 22 assists in the contest were also season-highs.
Lake Forest scored the game's first seven points and led by as many as 14 in the first quarter, which ended with the home team ahead 20-8. After a three-pointer by Forester sophomore guard Kara Norvet to open the second, Lawrence rattled off seven straight points to pull to within eight midway through the period. Lake Forest outscored the visitors 14-7 over the final four minutes of the half to take a 37-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Foresters continued to pull away in the third quarter and led 60-32 with 10 minutes to play in the contest. All five starters sat out the fourth as Stiewe and five other reserves produced the team's highest-scoring quarter of the season.
Lake Forest is now 9-7 overall and 8-4 in Midwest Conference play this season. Lawrence is still winless after 17 contests, including a dozen league games.
The Foresters will travel to Monmouth College on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
