The Lake Forest College women's basketball team held visiting Illinois Institute of Technology to just six points in the first half en route to a 64-31 victory Wednesday night.
The Scarlet Hawks' 31 points on the evening were the fewest allowed by the Foresters since they surrendered the same total against Knox College in February of 2008. Freshman guards Taylor Farrell and Tiffany Stiewe each had three of Lake Forest's season-high 14 steals and the home team forced 24 turnovers and limited Illinois Tech to just 23.1 percent shooting from the field.
For the second straight home game Stiewe knocked down five three-pointers and led the Foresters in scoring. She finished with 19 points in 18 minutes of play on Wednesday. She was also one of 11 players on the team to record one of Lake Forest's 18 assists on 24 made baskets.
Junior forward Brittany Avonts, sophomore guard Samantha Ney, and freshman forward Paige Bobos were next on the home team with seven points apiece and sophomore guard/forward Kara Norvet led the squad with seven rebounds. Lake Forest out-rebounded the visitors 46-35 on the night.
The Foresters shot 7-for-14 from the field during the first quarter and led 16-4 after 10 minutes of play. Stiewe was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scored 11 points in the second quarter and the home team took a 37-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Bobos scored all seven of her points in the third quarter and Lake Forest outscored the Scarlet Hawks 18-14 in the period. The Foresters shot 2-for-16 from the floor and scored just nine points while allowing 11 in the fourth.
