The Lake Forest College men's soccer team hosted and defeated Finlandia University 13-2 on Sunday and set a program record for goals in a game. Freshman Grady McDonald contributed to four of the scores with a goal and three assists.
The previous team record of 12 goals in a contest was set during the 1975 season. On Sunday the Foresters netted five in the first half and eight, including six by non-starters, in the second.
Freshmen Mahir Mameledzija and Nicholas Kliminski each scored twice in the game. Mameledzija leads the squad with nine goals and 24 points on the season and Kliminski now has three scores to his credit. Juniors Stephen Egan and Raul Ardelean scored for the first time this year and juniors Anthony Valsamis and Selorm Agbodza and sophomore Miles Kerr each netted his first career goal. Other goals were turned in by freshman Jordan Hartman (fifth of 2010), senior Jacob Heaps (second), McDonald (second), and junior Nelson Dorvlo (third).
McDonald was the first Forester with three assists in a game since current assistant coach Attila Schmidt accomplished the feat early in the 2005 season. Senior Will Press had a pair of assists and four other Foresters registered one helper apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Melvin Flores held the Lions scoreless for the game's first 45 minutes to earn the victory.
Lake Forest is now 9-4-0 this season and its five-game winning streak is the program's longest since beginning the 2006 season 5-0-0.
The Foresters will play their final non-conference game of the regular season next Tuesday at Millikin University. The contest will begin at 2:00 p.m.
