Sophomore Jack Dwyer was the individual runner-up as the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed third at the two-day, three-round St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
Dwyer entered Tuesday's third and final round in fourth place behind three individuals from team champion Webster University. His 76 on the 6,518-yard par-71 course moved him past two of them but still eight shots behind the medalist. Dwyer started on the 10th hole and carded birdies on the par-5 13th and 3rd. He finished his three rounds with seven birdies, which ranked third in the field. He was also tied-for-third with 30 pars, including 10 on Tuesday, and he ranked among the top three in the 59-player field in scoring on par-3s, par-4s, and par-5s. Dwyer's final score of 226 matched the third-best 54-hole performance in program history.
Fellow sophomore James Johnson was next on the team on Tuesday and for the tournament, finishing the final round in 79 strokes and placing 10th overall with a score of 241. He also recorded 10 pars in his final 18 holes to go along with a birdie on the 11th.
Dwyer was named First Team All-SLIAC and Johnson to the Second Team after placing in the top 5 and 10, respectively.
Freshman Ryan Higgins tied for 15th with a three-round score of 245 in his first conference tournament as a collegiate player. He earned his first birdie of the week on Tuesday's toughest par-3, the 130-yard 12th hole.
Sophomores Anthony Scaletta and Connor Lindley finished tied-for-24th and 32nd, respectively. Lindley's 81 in Monday's opening round was the third best score on the team and Scaletta's 82s in the second and third round also factored in the team score.
Webster won the event with a three-round total of 909 and Knox College was second, just one shot ahead of the Foresters' 957. Illinois College placed fourth at 975.
