Lake Forest College Jessi Werner was named Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week and teammate Sam Ritsema was selected as the league's Performer of the Week on Monday. The Foresters won all five of their games at the MWC Classic over the weekend.
Werner a sophomore was 3-0 with a 0.78 earned run average in her three appearances. After shutting out Ripon College 10-0 in six innings on Friday, she tossed the 13th no-hitter in program history in an 8-0 blanking of Beloit College on Saturday. Werner closed out the weekend by striking out a career-high 12 battters in a 15-2 triumph over St. Norbert College on Sunday. Her strikeout total on the day is tied for the fourth-most in a game in school history. She finished the weekend with 21 strikeouts in 18 innings and opponents batted just .167 against her.
Ritsema, a senior shortstop, hit .556 with a 1.167 slugging percentage in the five games combined. Five of her 10 hits on the weekend went for extra bases, including her first three home runs of the year. She scored at least once in each contest and eight times total. She also drove in nine runs, including a career-high-tying four against Ripon College on Friday. She now ranks fourth in program history with 16 career home runs and is also among the top 10 in at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, runs batted in, and total bases.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Werner also earned the award on March 31 and once last season. It was the second straight sweep of the league's weekly awards by the Foresters with freshman pitcher Jenny McTague and sophomore first baseman Sally Snarski being honored seven days earlier.
