Lake Forest College softball player Jessi Werner was named Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Foresters to a 4-0 record over the weekend.
Werner, a sophomore, started each contest and pitched 15 innings in the four games combined. She struck out four batters in two innings of an 8-2 triumph in the opener at Illinois College on Saturday before punching out seven in an 11-3, 6-inning complete game victory in game two.
Lake Forest posted a 7-6 victory in the first game at Monmouth College on Sunday and Werner recorded three strikeouts in two innings of work. She then tallied seven strikeouts while allowing just two base hits in game two, an 8-0 5-inning Forester victory.
Werner was 2-0 with a 2.33 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in the four game combined. She improved to 6-3 with a 1.92 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 54.2 innings this season.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Werner also earned the award once last year.
