Lake Forest College softball players Jenny McTague and Sally Snarski were named Midwest Conference Pitcher and Performer of the Week, respectively, on Monday after helping lead the Foresters to four victories in as many games over the weekend.
McTague, a freshman, pitched seven scoreless innings and earned a pair of wins, raising her record on the season to 6-1. She struck out four batters and allowed just one base hit in the first three innings of a 13-0 five-inning win over Knox College on Saturday. She also blanked Robert Morris University for four frames during the team's 7-1 triumph in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. McTague recorded three more strikeouts and surrendered three hits in the game. She did not issue a walk in either contest.
Snarski, a sophomore first baseman, batted .545 (6-for-11) and posted a 1.182 slugging percentage on the weekend. She also scored and drove in four runs each. She was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one driven in, and a stolen base during the team's 13-0 and 9-1 wins over Knox College on Saturday. Snarski then belted a home run in both games of a sweep of Robert Morris on Sunday. She also doubled in the opener and singled in a four-run seventh inning rally in game two, a game the Foresters won 12-11 despite trailing 9-2 in the sixth inning.
Both players are off to good starts to their Lake Forest careers. McTague's earned run average is currently 1.36 and she has struck out 43 batters in 46-and-a-third innings of work. Snarski is hitting .431 and has already belted a team-high eight home runs. She also leads the squad with a .931 slugging percentage and 22 runs batted in.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Snarski also earned the award on March 17.
