The Lake Forest College men's cross country team placed 35th and the women 38th at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh AAE Invitational on Saturday. Forester junior Kristen Whitney ran the fastest 6-kilometer race in program history.
Whitney completed the course in 22 minutes and 58.34 seconds, breaking the school record of 22:58.6 she set on the same course at last year's NCAA Division III Regional Meet. She finished 96th out of 414 runners on Saturday.
Sophomore Cassie Lira was next on the team and 193rd overall with a time of 23:50.72, the 15th-best time in team annals. Fellow sophomore Alexia Leonardo was 238th in 24:13.36 and junior Abigail Toohey placed 284th with a time of 24:46.78. Freshman Emily Staufer rounded out the Foresters' top five with a 302nd-place time of 25:01.43 and classmate Monica Redfern was the next runner to cross the finish line just 0.28 seconds later.
Two Forester men added their names to the list of the top 25 times in program history. Sophomore Jonathan Stern was first on the team and 169th out of 419 runners overall and his time of 26:27.9 ranks sixth in team history. Junior Rocco DiMatteo was 210th and his 26:39.8 ranks 14th in program history. Freshman Jorge Villanueva placed 239th in 26:53.9 and classmate Christian Aldana was 258th with a time of 27:05.7.
Washington University of St. Louis won the women's team competition and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished first on the men's side.
The Foresters will be off next weekend before competing in the Midwest Conference Championship Meet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 31.
