Previewing the course where they will compete in the Midwest Conference championships later in the month, the Lake Forest College men's cross country team finished first and the women third at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational on Saturday. Four Foresters placed among the top 10 in the men's 8-kilometer race.
The men's race was won by Forester sophomore Jonathan Stern and his time of 26:35.3 ranks ninth in team history. Junior Sintayehu Regassa was next on the team and eighth in the 109-runner field with a time of 27:11.7. Freshman Jorge Villanueva finished ninth just four-tenths of a second after Regassa and junior Rocco DiMatteo was 10th in 27:14.7. Freshman Victor Sarat gave Lake Forest five of the first 18 finishers with his time of 27:49.5.
The Foresters' 46 points were 21 fewer than runner-up and co-host Coe College. Cornell College, the other host school, was third with 88 points.
As she had in every race over the last two seasons, junior Kristen Whitney led the Lake Forest women's team. She placed sixth out of 121 runners with a 6-kilometer time of 24:12, good for 25th in program history. Junior Andrea Lorch and sophomore Cassie Lira were 14th in 24:38.2 and 15th in 24:40.9, respectively. Sophomore Alexia Leonardo finished fourth on the team and 26th overall in 25:07.9 and junior Abigail Toohey placed 33rd at the meet with a time of 25:37.3.
