Forester Men Place Fourth, Women Fifth at Tom Barry Invitational

Forester Men Place Fourth, Women Fifth at Tom Barry Invitational

The Lake Forest College cross country teams competed at St. Norbert College's Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday and the Forester men placed fourth out of nine teams and the women fifth out of 10. Sophomore Jonathan Stern was the team's top finisher in 11th place overall.

Stern completed the 4-mile course in 21:46.3 and ahead of all but 10 members of the 91-runner field. Freshman Jorge Villanueva was next on the the team in 15th place with a time of 22:00.5 and junior Sintayehu Regassa was 23rd in 22:32.7. Freshman Alphonse Wilson debuted with a 31st-place time of 23:01.8 and classmate Victor Sarat rounded out the top five in 37th place and with a time of 23:11.3.

St. Norbert and Milwaukee School of Engineering tied for first place in the team standings with 76 points apiece, three fewer than the College of St. Scholastica. The Foresters were next with 115, edging out Wisconsin Lutheran College by one.

Junior Kristen Whitney was the Forester women's team's top runner for the eighth time in the last nine meets, dating back to the start of the 2014 season. She was 14th out of 123 runners with a 5-kilometer time of 20:30.6. Fellow junior Andrea Lorch was next in 26th place with a time of 20:54.4. Sophomores Cassie Lira and Alexia Leonardo finished 41st and 42nd, respectively, with Lira crossing the line in 21:40.1 and Leonardo two-tenths of a second later. Junior Abigail Toohey was fifth on the team and 47th overall in 21:59.1.

St. Norbert won the women's competition with 32 points and St. Scholastica was second with 60. With 86 points, Carroll University edged out Lawrence University by five and Lake Forest was fifth with 146.

Lake Forest will compete next at Calvin College's Knight Invitational next Saturday.
