Freshman Olivia Grimmer led the visitors with six kills, seven digs, and two aces in the Forester volleyball team's 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 loss at Cornell College Friday night.
Fellow freshman Olivia Smith was next on the team with five kills and six digs while classmate Hannah Nauert led the squad with 18 assists and added five digs.
Cornell won the first two points of the match and led throughout the opening set. Lake Forest pulled to within a point several times early in the set and trailed by just four at 15-11 before being outscored 10-5 the rest of the way.
Lake Forest took its first lead of the night at 8-7 in set two but the home team responded with an 8-2 run. The Rams' lead was just three at 18-15 before they closed out the set with a 7-2 run.
The Foresters won the first two points of the third set but dropped seven of the next eight. Cornell already led by seven at 16-9 before rattling off seven points in a row. The Foresters fought off three match points before the home team finished it off.
Lake Forest is now 8-10 overall this season and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell improved to 16-5 overall and remained undefeated in the league after four conference contests.
The Foresters will continue their road trip to Iowa with another MWC match at Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
