Freshman middle blocker Isabel Donnelly recorded six blocks but the Lake Forest College volleyball team fell 25-19, 25-14, 26-24 at Carthage College Friday night.
Half of Donnelly's blocks were solos and she added five kills to her stat line.
Junior outside hitter Grace Larson led the Foresters with eight kills, freshman setter Hannah Nauert with 21 assists, and junior defensive specialist Emily Witz with a season-high 23 digs.
The opening set was tied 14 times, the last at 19-19, before the home team won six straight points to finish it off.
The Foresters had doubled up the Lady Reds 8-4 early in set two but Carthage took the next 16 points. The visitors were able to win back-to-back points just once late in the set, which they dropped 25-14.
Both teams staged comebacks in the third. After falling behind by six at 13-7, the Foresters won five consecutive points and late broke a 20-20 tie with a block by Donnelly. Lake Forest led by a pair of points at 22-20 and again at 24-22 before the Lady Reds rallied for four in a row to win the match.
The Foresters fell to 5-8 on the season while Carthage improved to 9-3.
Lake Forest will host Robert Morris University-Springfield at 11:00 a.m. and Concordia University Chicago at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two opponents will face each other at 1:00.
