Freshman right side hitter Olivia Drevs finished with a career-high 11 kills but the Forester volleyball team was defeated 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 Wednesday night at Trinity International University.
Drevs, who had 10 kills in the last three matches combined, also posted a season-best .250 hitting percentage on the night. She was actually second on the team in kills behind freshman outside hitter Olivia Grimmer, who pounded out a career-high 13. It was the first double-double for Grimmer, who added a dozen digs and a pair of blocks to her stat line.
Junior outside hitter Grace Larson led the visitors with 26 digs, the highest total of her career and the most by a Forester this season. Sophomore libero Beana Yanovskaya also reached double figures with 13 digs. Freshman setter Hannah Nauert tallied a team-high 26 assists in the match while senior setter Lexi Kleva added 16.
Trinity International's only two leads of the first set were 1-0 and 11-10. The Forester advantage was just one at 15-14 and two at 20-18 before winning five of the next eight points and finishing off the set on a kill by freshman middle blocker Isabel Donnelly.
The home team took the first five points of set two and led 12-3 before a six-point Lake Forest trimmed the margin to three. The Foresters got no closer, however. They fought off four consecutive set points before falling 25-21.
Neither team led by more than three points in the third set, which was tied eight times. Trailing 24-21, Lake Forest won the next two points before dropping the set 25-23.
Most of set four was even closer than set three, with the score tied 12 times by the 17th point for each team. Trinity International, however, won the next four points and eight of the next 10 to take the set and the match.
The Foresters' record on the season now stands at 3-6 while the Trojans improved to 8-5.
Lake Forest will play three matches this weekend. The first two will be Friday night against Benedictine University (6:00) and Loras College (8:00) at North Central College and the last at Dominican University Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
