Foresters Defeat Benedictine in Season-Opening Dual Match

Foresters Defeat Benedictine in Season-Opening Dual Match

The Lake Forest College women's golf team hosted and defeated Benedictine University 384-465 in a dual match at Lake Bluff Golf Course on Monday.

It was the collegiate debut for four of the five Foresters participating, including freshman Chloe Morrissey, whose 88 was the best score of the day by six strokes. Morrissey's round included six pars, including four in the last seven holes, and she needed just 42 strokes to complete the back nine on a sunny but windy day.

Lake Forest senior Amanda Lee was the runner-up with a 94. She carded a three on the 344-yard par-4 eighth hole for the only birdie in the field.

Playing in a group with Morrissey and Lee, freshman Makayla Sanchez made it a 1-2-3 finish for the Foresters with a 98.

Junior Grace Black and senior Makenzie Kamm, who are also members of Lake Forest's women's hockey team, played together during their first appearance in a collegiate golf tournament and posted scores of 104 and 129, respectively. They accounted for 13 of the team's 23-stroke improvement from the front nine to the back.

The Foresters are now 18-0 all-time in dual matches with six of those victories coming against the Eagles.

Lake Forest will compete in the Carthage Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The 36-hole event will be played at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Lakewood, Illinois.
