The Forester women's basketball team won 71-57 at Ripon College Tuesday night. Lake Forest senior guard Danielle Canulli shot 4-for-4 from the field and 11-for-14 from the free throw line on the evening.
Canulli also matched her season-high with six rebounds.
With 20 points, junior guard Michelle Ricolcol was the Foresters' leading scorer for the third game in a row. Sophomore forward Brie Majkowski also reached double figures with 11 points. Fellow sophomore forward Brittany Avonts led all players in the contest with a career-high 10 rebounds and she tied with senior guard Jenna Rice for the team lead with three assists.
Lake Forest shot 51.3 percent from the field, made three of six attempts from three-point range, and knocked down a season-high 28 free throws in 40 tries. The Foresters held Ripon to 34 percent shooting from the floor, out-rebounded the home team 29-26, and forced 22 Red Hawk turnovers while committing just 18.
Canulli erased the Foresters' only deficit of the game when her free throws less than three minutes into the game tied the score at four. Two more free throws by Lake Forest junior forward K.C. Stralka on the team's next possession gave the visitors the lead for good and continued an 17-3 run. Ripon trimmed the margin to three points in the first half but trailed 36-30 at intermission.
After the Red Hawks pulled to within one early in the second half, Ricolcol scored six points during an 8-0 run and Lake Forest led by at least seven points the rest of the way.
The Foresters improved to 5-9 overall this season and evened their Midwest Conference mark at 5-5. Ripon fell to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in the league.
Lake Forest will continue conference play next Wednesday at Beloit College. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
