The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 65-48 by Illinois College at home Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Michelle Ricolcol came off the bench to lead the Foresters with 13 points.
Ricolcol made all four of her free throw attempts and added a pair of steals in the contest. Senior guard Danielle Canulli also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points and led the home team with six rebounds. Forester senior guard Jenna Rice dished out a game-high four assists and chipped in with three steals.
Lake Forest shot 34.7 percent from the field while the Lady Blues shot 36.2 percent. Illinois College was also 8-for-23 from three-point range and 23-for-30 from the foul line. The Foresters made just three of 13 attempts from beyond the arc and 11 of 13 free throws. Lake Forest was out-rebounded 38-27 and committed 21 turnovers to the visitors' 17.
Illinois College scored the game's first 10 points and led the rest of the way. Lake Forest cut the lead to five points twice early in the period and trimmed it to just two points on a layup by junior forward K.C. Stralka with two minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Blues took a 27-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Foresters pulled to within a single point twice early in the second half but were unable to complete the comeback. A pair of free throws by Ricolcol with 8:53 on the clock made it a four-point game but the visitors finished the game on a 20-7 run.
Lake Forest is now 4-9 overall and 4-5 in Midwest Conference play while the Lady Blues improved to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the league.
The Foresters will continue MWC play Tuesday evening at Ripon College. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
