The Lake Forest College women's basketball team dropped a 64-41 decision to visiting St. Norbert College Wednesday night in the first Midwest Conference game of the season for both teams. Senior guard Jenna Rice led the Foresters with four assists in the contest.
Rice assisted on the home team's first three baskets and the game was tied 6-6 early in the contest. St. Norbert, however, scored the next 11 points and led the rest of the way. The margin grew to as many as 13 points at 21-8 before a 9-0 Forester run closed the gap to four. The Green Knights pulled ahead by nine (30-21) at halftime and used a 22-3 run early in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Junior guard Michelle Ricolcol and sophomore forward Brie Majkowski led Lake Forest with eight points apiece and freshman guard Kelsey Schmitt grabbed a team-high five rebounds in her first career start. Senior guard Danielle Canulli led the Foresters with four steals and junior forward K.C. Stralka with a pair of blocked shots.
Lake Forest shot just 31.2 percent from the field and 10-for-17 from the foul line. St. Norbert posted a .407 field goal percentage and knocked down 14 of 20 foul shots. The Green Knights had a 43-21 edge in rebounds and committed 17 turnovers to the Foresters' 22.
The loss was the second in as many games this season for Lake Forest while St. Norbert improved to 3-0 overall.
The Foresters will travel to Cornell College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
