Junior goaltender Louis-Philippe De Courcy stopped all 33 shots on goal he faced as the Lake Forest College men's hockey team posted a 1-0 victory Friday night at Marian University.
It was the second 1-0 victory on the road this season for De Courcy, who also blanked College of St. Scholastica by the same score on November 4. It was his third shutout overall this year, just one shy of the program record and national lead.
The only goal of the game was scored by Forester freshman defenseman Nolan Carothers at the 6:24 mark of the first period. The play started with freshman forward Joe Sardina skating up the left side of the ice and over the blue line before passing to Carothers, who snuck one in five hole for his second score in the last two games.
De Courcy's first save of the night did not come until midway through the opening period and he made five more before the first intermission. Marian had a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal after 20 minutes of play. The home team then outshot the Foresters 9-7 in the second period and doubled them up 18-9 in that category in the third.
Six of De Courcy's saves came in the final five minutes of the game, including three after the Sabres pulled their goalie with 1:35 to play. The Forester netminder improved to 7-5-0 with a 2.22 goals against average and .923 save percentage on the year.
Lake Forest is now 10-8-0 overall and 7-4-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Marian fell to 11-5-1 overall and 6-5-0 in the league.
The Foresters will travel to Lawrence University Saturday night for a 7:00 puck drop.
