Senior forward George Gerasimou scored his first career goal but the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 3-2 in overtime by visiting University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.
Gerasimou tied the score at one in the middle of the opening period with fellow senoir forward David DeKorte and sophomore forward Austin Aksoy assisting on the play. Lake Forest had a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes but the game was still tied going into the second period.
The Foresters pulled ahead at the 1:34 mark of the second on a score by junior John Nugent. Nugent's first goal since his freshman season was set up by junior forward Cody Guidorzi and sophomore defenseman Zach Feldman. The Blugolds responded just 15 seconds later and the game remained tied 2-2 for the rest of regulation.
Eau Claire out-shot the Foresters 10-7 in the second period and 11-5 in the third. The visitors put five shots on goal to Lake Forest's one in overtime and scored the game-winner with 1:05 on the clock.
Both teams are now 1-1-0 on the season.
The Foresters will had north next weekend to begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at Northland College Friday night at 7:00 and at the College of St. Scholastica the following afternoon at 4:00.
