The Forester men's basketball team fell 61-60 at the University
of Chicago Tuesday night (November 24). Lake Forest is now 1-3 on
the season while the Maroons remain unbeaten after three
contests.
Forester sophomore post player Travis Clark
(Evanston, Ill./Evanston) scored a game-high 16 points on 8-of-9
shooting from the field. He also pulled down six rebounds. Freshman
guard Jeff
Beck (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) was next on the team with a
career-high 14 points and shot 6-for-8 from the floor. Senior
forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) recorded his
first double-double of the year, scoring 11 points and dishing out
a career-high 11 assists. Senior guard Victor
Campbell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the visitors
with seven rebounds.
Lake Forest shot exactly 50 percent from the field while limiting
Chicago to 39.3. The Maroons made a dozen three-pointers in 31
attempts while the Foresters connected on four of 10 from beyond
the arc. Lake Forest was 12-for-17 and Chicago 5-for-7 from the
foul line. The visitors held a 29-25 edge in rebounds but committed
14 turnovers while forcing just 10 Maroon miscues.
The Foresters scored the game's first six points and led by six on
four different occasions during the first half. Chicago briefly
took the lead three times in the period, including a 30-28
advantage when it ended.
Lake Forest also netted the first six points after halftime and
outscored the home team 21-7 during the first 11-plus minutes of
the period. The Foresters led 52-40 aftre a Hanley three-pointer
with 7:46 to play but Chicago went on an 18-6 run over the next
five-and-a-half minutes to tie the score at 58. Clark regained the
lead for Lake Forest on a layup with 1:40 left on the clock. The
Maroons knocked down a three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining and
blocked a shot with less than five ticks left to preserve the
victory.
The Foresters will host St. Mary's University on Sunday (November
