The Forester men's basketball team prevailed 79-67 at Illinois
College Wednesday night (January 27). Both teams are now 5-4 in
Midwest Conference play. Lake Forest raised its overall record to
7-9 while the Blueboys fell to 9-7.
Forester sophomore forward Nate Bateman (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake
Forest Academy) led all players in the game with a career-high 30
points. He shot 10-for-17 from the field and knocked down half of
his eight attempts from three-point range and six of seven free
throws. Sophomore post player Travis Clark (Evanston,
Ill./Evanston) and scophomore guard Chris Roets (Hartland,
Wis./Arrowhead) also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points,
respectively, and Clark added a game-high 10 rebounds for his
fourth consecutive double-double and 10th this season. Senior
forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) added five
points, nine rebounds, and a game-high seven assists.
Lake Forest shot 47.5 percent from the field while limiting
Illinois College to just 34.9 percent. The Foresters held a
commanding 46-29 edge in rebounds but committed 16 of the game's 25
turnovers.
The Blueboys took their only lead of the game (11-10) with 14-plus
minutes to play in the first half. The Foresters responded with a
20-5 run during which Bateman scored eight points and six other
players on the team had at least two.
Lake Forest led 36-23 at halftime and by as many as 22 points in
the second period. TheBlueboys could get no closer than 15 points
until the final minute of the contest.
The Foresters will host Grinnell College Saturday afternoon
