The Lake Forest College men's basketball team fell 80-67 to
visiting Carroll University on Saturday (December 5). The Foresters
fell to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-2 in Midwest Conference
play. The Pioneers raised their overall record to 4-2 and evened
their league mark at 1-1.
Senior guard Victor Campbell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
and sophomore guard Chris Roets (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) shared
team-high honors with 16 points apiece. They combined to shoot
7-for-15 from three-point range. After finishing the previous
night's MWC opener against St. Norbert College with 18 points and
12 rebounds, sophomore post player Travis Clark (Evanston,
Ill./Evanston) recorded another double-double, his third of the
year, with 11 points and 10 boards. He shot an efficient 5-for-7
from the field and added a pair of blocked shots and steals in the
contest. Senior forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield,
Ill./Plainfield) pulled down nine rebounds and led the squad with
five assists.
The Foresters were out-shot 46.8 to 39.7 percent from the field.
The home team made nine of 32 shots from three-point range and
connected on eight of 15 free throws. Carroll shot 6-for-13 from
beyond the arc and 30-for-38 from the foul line. Lake Forest
out-rebounded the visitors 40-31 but committed 16 of the game's 25
turnovers.
An 11-0 Carroll run early in the game gave the Pioneers the lead
for good. The margin reached as many as 21 points late in the
opening period and the Foresters trailed 43-24 at halftime.
Lake Forest chipped away at the deficit and a 9-0 run trimmed it to
just five points (62-57) with five minutes to play. Carroll scored
the game's next six points, however, and connected on 12 of 14 free
throws in the final two minutes to pull away and clinch the
victory.
The Foresters will host a non-conference game against North Central
College at 7:00 Tuesday night (December 8). A live
video webcast, a live radio
broadcast, and
live
stats will be
available during the game on the Lake Forest College Athletics Web
site.
