The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 25-15 at Monmouth College on Saturday less than 24 hours after winning in three sets at Illinois College Friday night. Forester juniors Molly McCloskey and Cori Cooper teid for team-high honors with 20 kills apiece.
Cooper and McCloskey also reached double figures in digs with 12 and 11, respectively, and each player served up a pair of aces. Fellow junior Tia Rupnik led the visitors with 20 digs and sophomore Tori Drasler had a team-high 28 assists.
The first set was tied at 11 before a 6-0 Fighting Scot run gave the home team a 17-11 advantage. The Foresters pulled back to within a point at 22-21 and again at 24-23 before Monmouth closed out the set.
Lake Forest won the first three points of set two and led until the Scots came back and tied the score at 18. A 6-1 run put the Foresters back on top and a block by Drasler and freshman Amber Craghead accounted for the final point and tied the match at one set apiece.
The Foresters successfully fought off three set points in the third before the Scots closed it out.
The home team jumped out to a 10-1 lead in set four and cruised to its second victory in as many Midwest Conference matches. Monmouth is now 5-8 overall. The Foresters are 6-8 overall with a 1-1 mark in league play.
Lake Forest will host a non-conference match against Mount Mary College Tuesday night at 7:00.
